In August, Rio de Janeiro will usher in its first Olympic Games. Many venues throughout the city will host a series of sporting events. One of the biggest is the Deodoro Olympic Park, where it will hold events of 11 Olympic Games and 4 Paralympic Games, including: Canoe Slalom, Cycling (BMX, mountain biking), Hockey, Shooting, Modern Pentathlon, Women's Basketball, Football and Equestrian. Paralympic competitions include Wheelchair Fencing, Shooting and 7-person Football and Equestrian. The total flat parkland is planned by vigliecca & associates office, seeking to leave a positive venue even after the Olympics.
After the Olympics, the youth stadium will become the athletes' fitness training center
Originally built for the Pan American Games, Deodoro venue has existed since 2007. The biggest challenge of this project is to make existing facilities to meet Olympic standards, and these buildings and new buildings form a whole. Due to the steep terrain, the existing railway, two roads and a river crossing, the complexity of the program is further increased.
On the facade of the building, the adjustable shading devices and curtain wall are applied
More "radical" sports, such as canoe slalom, mountain biking and mountain biking are placed together, and the public green space combined with the skateboard park and picnic area is also included. "X Park" is located in the poorest areas of the city, aimed at encouraging local communities, especially the social and sports development of young people.
The building uses the concept of the hangar, with a total span of 66.5 meters
Canoe slalom stadium, as the new construction of a permanent facility, will be one of the most complex structures of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro; it needs to provide a kind of simulation circuit with control parameters. BMX track is designed in considering the local topography and prevailing winds and other factors that may cause interference with the performance of athletes. The road uses clay and thin asphalt, and sets up a wave every ten meters.
The youth center is in the distance, while the three hockey stadiums are near
The youth gymnasium used to hold the women's basketball match and the modern five events, will become the athletes’ physical fitness training center after the Olympic Games. The building uses the concept of the hangar, with a total span of 66.5 meters. On the facade of the building, the adjustable shading devices and curtain wall are applied, and vents are installed on the roof, so as to reduce maintenance costs.
